How much difference do sound cards - Page 3

IDK just seems like a waste to me as I have always used integrated audio, and even with a actual sound card...and I could not really tell a difference. But my hearing REALLY sucks anyways, but that is also where really it comes down to how well a person can hear the sounds. Since I know some ppl can pick out pitchs and what not easily with alot a other sounds, and just some cant. Also I find it card to justify spending anything over $50 for a sound card if it does not change the experience it self. Nothing like spending money and being disappointed

The Asus ROG series Mobos have nice onboard sound imo.

But unless you are an audiophile you won't notice, and if you do it wouldn't be a crazy difference.

lol.

I don't have a fry's within 8 hours of me.

Or a micro center.

I live in tech hell :/

and I feel raped going to best buy...

At any rate I won't call myself a hardcore audiophile but, I can usually tell if a file is lower quality assuming I have a decent set of headphones.

I've heard bad things about USB sound cards... I would have to question what seperates them from say the megalodons razer sells with "build in sound card!"

Actually, today's events to me proved my argument.

I just installed an Accelero cooler on my 4870X2 and it turned out that my sound card doesn't fit together with my 4870X2 now I didn't think of that before buying the cooler.

So, now I'm "stuck" (poor me) with my onboard audio, which I can tell is a tremendous downgrade. Even my wife (who is not into audio/technical stuff) noticed the difference when we were watching a movie.

If you can't fit an addon sound card in, there are some external sound cards available that connect through usb.

In my experience the headphones themselves make more of a difference to audio positioning than the quality of the sound card.
you will get better positional audio due to the bundled surround sound DSPs that come with some soundcards

Also yes the output makes more of a difference than the source but the source is still significant as trash in = trash out.
