Oh AMD - you have failed me for the last time! - Page 21

I got mine for $190 back on black friday, if I add another it's gonna have to be for sub $200.

I'm not sure I'll need a second one before the next gens come out, or if the next gens are too expensive and the gtx 470s are in the $150 or less range I might grab one then.

Not sure what I want to do about next gen cpu/board, sure it's always better than current stuff when it's released, but it doesn't take long before the "improved" next gen comes out.

It doesn't get very hot, hasn't ever been over 55C thus far in it's life, I could probably turn it back a bit but I like my things cold.

Before spring I should have it under water anyways, so I hope to eliminate some of the fan noise with that, because it's louder than the rad fans.

Also you might not be able to see them, but there are two ultra kaze /w shrouds on the rad, when it's colder I can game sub 0C.
I also like my system cold.....

my 480 never goes over 70Deg C....

which i think is pretty good for SLI 480s....

..........

anyways... i think we have seen that the good old AMD still goes well....

And before you say it.... if you look at all my other systems... they are actually intels lol

I'm personally skipping the 5xx series all together, since it's more cost efficient to add a 2nd 470 if I need more horse power, but for now, there isn't any game I can't run on max settings at less than 60 FPS @ 1080p ( I don't play Metro, so that doesn't apply to me )

Besides, I mostly use my rig for video editing, and the 470 is plenty for my needs.

I'll be building a 2nd rig for my girl, and I'd like to cap it @ $1k, and it will consist of mostly used parts, open box, or general deals I come across, but I'm going to wait for Sandy Bridge & Bulldozer to come out, since all current gen products will come down further in price.

I wouldn't get the newest gen until at least 6 months after the dust settles.

I've built systems with both camps before, this time around my needs called for Intel, my girl won't have such demanding needs for the 2nd rig, and I may even get her a 1090T depending on where prices are at in a couple months.

@OP
Try Cinebench 11.5. I bet your 6 core will beat my quad core at 4ghz. I get only 6.93 points for cpu on there. You probably get 7.15 or something.

Now I just need a game to use all 6 cores and I'll be golden.

BF:BC2 Vietnam runs upward of 90 fps average at the same settings - wonder why.

does it matter? no games really use 6 cores. they are still optimized for tri's and quad's.
are you getting good FPS? then whats the problem? that X6 should last you a few years.

that is what i plan on doing....

upgrading my graphics cards as needed...

but keeping my CPU for a while

I mean i kept my Core 2 Duo E6750 for 4 years!!!!

Then i went to another Core 2 Duo E8500 for a year....

both of which i had a 480 along side

now i have this setup lol

Actually mate, no it doesnt
Remember the i3 has HT which gives it 4 threads

In Vantage my I3 Keeps up with my Phenom II x4 i used to have

The i3 is also faster in most games than a Phenom II, and has a massive clock for clock advantage
So Confused
