EVGA is always a safe bet. I have had great luck with Palit as well. My only really bad experience has been with BFG and it [U]eventually[U] got worked out.

the only evga card within my price range is a reference card. For a little more I could get maybe the gigagbyte one which has 2 fans( this is one that I was looking into buying) Do you still recommend the evga?
Edit: nvm I cant even find the evga that I was talking about anymore for some reason

the Gigabyte one has apparently had problems with failing soon after purchase (4 months or so)

I recommend the GTX 460 Hawk, for $180, $160 after rebate, with free shipping. fair enough, i have one, but it is quick, it is quiet when on auto fan at full load, and it is custom cooled so you don't have high temps (our apartment is at 22C ambient and even after an hour of GTA IV i haven't seen it break past 60C. fan is at around 50% or so.)

the eVGA card is going to be slightly louder (the EE cooler is not that good) but you have the step up option to a 570 if that interests you...

-e- where are my manners? welcome to OCN, and please enjoy your stay . remember to keep things civil, and should you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to fling me a PM

I used EVGA exclusively till my last build and I went ASUS. I couldn't be happier with it and after rebate I got it for around $129.99. GTX460 768MB TOP.

Thanks for all the input everyone. I wasn't aware of the price of the Hawk. Seeing that makes me happy and it might have sealed the deal

I have the MSI Cyclone (with 4 phase instead of 7 phase gpu VRM) and it runs pretty cool, tops out at 61c with max OCCT load. However the VRMs feel scorching hot to the touch, so I think getting some aftermarket VRMsinks is a good idea. In comparison, the GDDR5 ram is warm and not hot at all.

http://www.hardware.fr/articles/747-...thermique.html
This French site actually has some nice thermal images of the 460 under load (as well as other cards and idle images). Clearly the 460 generation runs relatively cool compared to other cards. The biggest heat source is actually your VRMs.

I'm sure the Hawk will overclock well with more VRMs providing juice to the core.
