This French site actually has some nice thermal images of the 460 under load (as well as other cards and idle images). Clearly the 460 generation runs relatively cool compared to other cards. The biggest heat source is actually your VRMs.

I'm sure the Hawk will overclock well with more VRMs providing juice to the core.
take care, though, as the VRM's aren't cooled. the card is also not likely to hit 1ghz core.

re OCing, yeah. you'd probably need water and a well binned chip to hit 1ghz. 850 most cards hit, 900 quite a few, usually with extra voltage. 1000... that will require magic...

a vrm is what monitors and manages the voltages.
