So here goes

i will be soon 3 years i on my 4870 1Gb and i absolutly love it she served well i even crossfired her for 8 months for free since i sold the other one for the the same price i got it (actually sold the original one since this one still has 1 year warranty)

So i game at 1920x1200 and even now my 4870 1Gb still plays all the games at med to high settings with some AA lowered. (mainly Black ops lately)

So even if it isnt 100% necessary you are all like me and want the last generation thing. So i was thinking ok i got a nice xmas bonus and what to spoil my self. I my self tens to go for the red side but im always happyer to get my bang for the buck.

So i set my self a budget 300€ and that puts me right in the price tag o the newboy in town i have been waitng for since september, 6950.

so here i am looking at 6950 at 280€ to 320€ and seeing 5870's at 250€ 280€, and thinking damn i want the 6900 series but the 5870 will give me same performance for less moneys.

And then i stumble apon this
a GTX570 for 340€ plus shipping - checked and these usually go for around 380 - 400€
http://www.pccool.org/product.php?id_product=5050

and then think well if im gonna part with around 350€ might look what i can get in that price range and in stumble upon this:
ATI6970 359€ free shipping
http://www.pcdiga.com/pcdiga/Produto.asp?Artigo=8078

so i found 2 GPUs that usually go for 380 400€

so what one should i go for

is the 2Gb Vram gonna make a difference on the long term? i will want this next gpu to serve me at least 2 years.

PS
I use 3 screens, not in eyefinity but 2 on my desk and my tv in the living room with a 20m HDMI cable, so that is why im also leaning twards ATI
EDIT

they bumped the price of the 570 to 380€ plus i have to pay shipping

I would vote for the GTX 570. Powerful and cool. It's time to get back to Nvidia:/

Get a gtx 570, I think its slightly faster than the 6970, plus nvidia has better drivers <-- (not trying to start a flame war.. just my opinion)

570. I love my 5850 but it's constant minor driver glitches are starting to annoy the hell out of me.

The 2GB Vram is a 'blessing' but, in certain situations, can be a 'curse' as well. It is a 'blessing' as you have that huge amount of video ram to use if you ever need it. However, it will map itself into system memory for address and therefore will take away a larger portion (relative to 1.3GB Vram of the 570) of the system ram. So, you might have less system ram to use.

Good that you are using a 64-bit OS to use the full 4GB system ram but it is still 'only' 4GB. So, you should examine how you usually use your system ram and see if this factor might affect you. If you have 6GB or more system ram, I would not think this pose a potential problem.

Disregard what I said. You have a 64-bit OS and so you should be OK.
