CPU Ratio

Thread Starter
I understand the CPU ratio to be the same as the divider, however in the BIOS it has a max of 12.00 however in overclocking software it says it is set to 15.1

So... what do I do? It seems auto is my only other choice but I need to pull it down but not 12. Correct me if anything sounds like a bad idea. If not perhaps there's something I don't understand.

yea man, I think you're doing something wrong, can you fill in the system specs values? (they appear under every post)

From there we can help more

Since you're running an Athlon, your CPU Ratio or "Multiplier" is locked upwards. You can only go as high as stock allows. You can of course lower your multiplier though. The Athlon's need to be overclocked with the reference clock (FSB is another name, but not correct).

So auto to get 15.1 or 12.0/5.0 manual which gets me around 3000 with reference clock up at 250 without stalling. I didn't intend to get suck with the processor but I made a mistake and I guess I'm paying for it now.

Software allows me to change it within 15.1 and 12 but I'd rather go BIOS.

Is my only other option besides buying a new processor is using software to overclock?

Your stock multiplier is 15.5x. So if you put it to 15.5x in BIOS, that's as high as it will go, period.

If you want to overclock it, you'll have to raise the reference clock, and lower your RAM settings (so they stay close to stock).

That Athlon II should reach 3.7GHz or better with even a decent mid range cooler.

Oh your right it is 15.5x. But as your saying if I want to overclock it I need to lower my ram. Well I made a mistake getting 1333 ram, although I wasn't suppose to have that CPU as it only support 1066Mhz so it's down clocked to 667... and I really don't know what to do about it except get a new processor.

you could get a new CPU, but i think you'll be able to get a decent clock out of that chip, look at the guide in my signature, it's videos

Will do, thanks for both of your help.

EDIT: Just found out it does go to 15.5x manually and lower just had scroll down lower!
It's to black edition that don't go down if I'm correct... maybe they do both.
