Where should I put my OS?

Thread Starter
Hello there everyone, I have a decision to make.

I currently have my OS and programs on a Seagate ST3808110AS (80 GB), and everything else on a Samsung HD103Sj (1TB) (Spinpoint F3, the most popular drive here)

I got the following HDTune results:

Seagate:

Samsung:

I'm going to reinstall W7 Ultimate 64-bit tonight, and was wondering where I should put it... Should I just put all my stuff on the Samsung, and ditch the Seagate, or what?

Also, the S.M.A.R.T. on the Samsung tells me that the Spin Up Time failed the test. Info says Current=78, Worst=20, and threshold=6965. What should I do about this? I bought the drive from Newegg (I think, my stepdad bought it for me) a few weeks ago. Is this error grounds for a RMA?

Thanks for reading my long and drawn-out issues.

The F3 for sure, it's substantially faster.

I'm 16, that's too dang expensive.

So just dump everything on the F3, and ignore the Seagate?

Well, I'd rather get another separate OS drive...really...it's a good investment to keep your OS on another disk and files on another (speaking from experience when my laptop HDD failed even though partitioned...couldn't get the files back)

Go for an SSD or for a cheaper hybrid solution like the Momentus XT...

As for the drive...never did benchmark my HDD's so I'm not sure if it's really a problem 'coz I've got 2 F3's on RAID1 so I really don't care...BUT...if I was in your situation...back-up ASAP and then research if it's ok to leave it like that or RMA the drive.

That's just me I guess...

i say the 80GB drive.,

more space for your media, and that way if anything happens and you need to reinstall it will be fine and you won't lose much.

You could partition the 1TB into 80/920, or whatever you wanted. I can't stand having a drive over 250GB, gets very unorganized.

My spare 300GB IDE is just filled with pictures of random things in no file structure. , my Caviar black is 300/200 (Games/Data), and my other one is a 300GB~ I think. I don't even know, I loose track,

I would use the seagate to backup important stuff, like family pictures, or your school works
