Get gparted and format the hard drive as ntfs and see if that will get the windows installer working.

The thing is, my old hard drive was borked. I was unable to run any programs or reinstall Windows 7 and I used another hard drive in hopes of being able to do a clean install.

Get gparted and format the hard drive as ntfs and see if that will get the windows installer working.

Download the iso from that site, burn it to a CD-R with an appropriate tool*, and boot it on your laptop (just hit enter at all the prompts). When you get to the partition editor, make a new filetree and/or partition on that drive (I don't remember the exact step-by-step procedure) and format it into ntfs. Use the restart command, take out your gparted cd, put in your windows installation disc, and see if Windows will install.

* What computer are you using now, and do you have a tool to burn .iso files to discs?

Yeah, luckily my old laptop is still working. I'm still downloading gparted right now so I'll update if anything happens.

Thanks for the help so far everyone!

EDIT: Still no good. Same error screen, same error message.

You hit "Apply" and all, right? Did gparted show an ntfs partition on the drive before you closed out?

Yeah, it had a cyan colored square color-coded to NTFS too.

I was having issues getting any OS (linux or xp) to install to my laptop a couple weeks ago, so I know how frustrating it is. Also had some issues last time I installed win7 on my desktop, but they were related to SATA and RAID drivers that I needed to provide the installer with.

Did you try Googling your error message? You might also want to try looking around on http://www.sevenforums.com/ to see if you can find a solution there.

I did but those instances were all errors when Windows 7 (or another OS) was already installed, rather than having to do a fresh install on a new hard drive.

DVD. Probably shouldn't be using those two interchangeably. Whoops. >_>

I'm very sure my drive is compatible. I've been able to install Windows 7 (when my old hard drive still worked) and some games before with it.

But yeah I see that screen when I boot with the W7 disc. The bar loads twice before reaching the screen I'm stuck at now.
