Lost IP address - Page 2

Can you ping your router?

If Yes: Log-on to your router using the it's IP address, usual something like 192.168.1.1 or something similar and reboot it from there.

If No: Can you ping the loopback address 127.0.0.1

If Yes: contact ISP

If No: Hardware error/Cabling Issue

----------------------------------------------------------

It may sound strang but try changing the cable used in the router.

also try changing the ADSL filter

Is your friend using a router or connected directly to the modem?

If he plugs directly into the modem then his computer is using the IP given by his ISP, in which case call the ISP and tell them what is going on.

If hes using a router then its probably something wrong with the DHCP settings on the router. If other devices are able to get an IP address on the network then this is probably not the issue.
