I believe that it is caused by two factors. One is the huge amount of new features being added. It takes time to finish and ensure stability. The second reason is mobile. Mozilla's first shot at a mobile browser was too slow and buggy. With mobile browsers becoming extremely popular, Mozilla realizes that they need a good mobile browser if they wish to make an entry into the market. Meeting performance requirements for mobile without splitting the development team in two also takes time. Remember, webkit has three major corporations behind it while only one small company is behind Firefox.

Go to your the settings in your OCN "User CP", change "Thread Titles" from Dynamic to Static. It should bring the news and newest posts back up. They fixed it in Beta 7, broke it again in 8 and is working again in beta 9. So install a nightly build of beta 9 if you don't like it on Static were it cuts off some of the writing whereas Dynamic shows the complete title usually.

If you download the "Add-on compatibility reporter" from the add-on page for Firefox, it will allow you to install almost every add-on even if it says it is not compatible. Most work now, especially the popular ones(ABP/NoScript/TabmixPlus,etc), just won't let you install them without this add-on installed to allow it.

Firefox makes lots of file read/writes. LOTS. Unless you plan on killing your SSD way before it should die, I'd take Firefox off of it....

I really don't understand this mindset, imo I would put the apps that read/write loads exactly on the SSD, they are the ones that would benefit from it, and I think even with all those extra writes the SSD would last you a good couple of years until you replace it with the 5pb SSD that just got released

+ you can make firefox use the ram as cache anyway

They announced it far too early - making it vapourware,

&

They will be adding tons of bloat - so that people migrate to Chrome.

It's the same with all software these days - announced far too early, with too many promises attached, and the tendency to add far too much but implemented in a very poor manner. With all of the hype, FF4 is bound to be a big disaster, with tons of bloat, tons of bugs, and it probably won't be able to run decently on any system that is sub-hexacore, sub 3.6GHz, with sub 8GB of memory...

^Clearly you haven't actually tried any of the betas or nightly builds..

Lol, have you even tried using Firefox? Ive used Firefox on a far worse system than a "sub 3.6GHz sub-hexacore" and "sub 8GB of memory" and I can say that it works just fine.
