Well if its they release anything better than the 5970 I'll be sure to get that instead, as long as it comes out before Make A Wish Foundation grants me my wish.

Oh and additionally you should check out this message board if you haven't already:

http://www.polycount.com/

Arguably one of the best game artist online communities in existence. A lot of pros hang around here and you can get great feedback on your work.

This part is especially fun, it's where people are showing what they've been working on recently. You get to see a lot of portfolio sites as well. Great way to gauge your own progress. (And cry a little bit from time to time )

Top end graphics card will own workstation cards. (unless of course you send 4 times the price for the same card almost) For the money of getting that high end workstation, just get one or two of the top consumer graphics cards.

I have yet to read/see a high end quadro do something that a top end consumer card cannot.

nvidia price spec comparison only.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/product...o-6000-us.html
http://www.nvidia.com/object/product...tx-580-us.html

prices:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814133347
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130590

As you can see. You get a more powerful card for only 520 vs a similar, but less powerful card for 4,000. You are getting WAY more memory though.

One thing I can almost guarantee is the quadro will have a MUCH lower chance of having hardware defects or a problem that would require RMA. Aside from that, drivers optimized for the 3dcad or maya applications.

This is only the two top cards from their respective markets and only an example from nvidia. I'm not recommending one over the other.

To sum it up. I'm sure the 580 or 4 of them for half the price still, lol, would do you so much more overall. Maybe someone that has actually first-hand compared two cards like this that can comment.

I'll keep it in mind, perhaps it may be a good resource site since I also mod for oblivion and could use meshes (with author permission) for a large project I am working on which is in my signature.

edit: Thanks for the suggestion. I think I will stick with ATI since I've managed to have a good experience on my laptop with just the Radeon X1200 series. I'll probably run crossfire with the ATI Radeon HD 5970, not sure I want more than 2 cards though... power consumption.

Once you have things going on the project you might also consider posting a wanted ad on Polycount. They have a section for people asking for volunteer help.

I think just about everyone would recommend an Evga SR-2 if you want a top of the line mobo. It'll support quad gpus with no proble at all. Only issue is it's too big to fit in most cases without modding...

http://www.evga.com/products/moreInf...%20Family&sw=5

Plus with one of those you can even use dual Xeons if you like.

Unfamiliar with any of the other high end i7 gaming grade boards, still sporting 775 love myself
