MoBo Util CD install (Ubuntu)

Thread Starter
Here I sit --- staring @ CD/DVD Drive while inside 'Computer' (found in taskbar Places). I double-click, I right click & select open, etc., & nothing happens. The drive is hooked up properly ... is noticed in BIOS ... activity light comes on when disc is inserted. Ugh. I want to install the video drivers, etc. But as I am typing this, I bet everyone is going to tell me to just update, etc. off the WWW, right? This may be such a DUH! moment for me ...

I await my spanking ...

Uh, well ... I went to Biostar (TA690G) site, they kind of say go to original chipset, etc. manufactures sites & find there ... So I go to AMD & search for 690 drivers, etc. & all that appears to be offered is Windows-based drivers --- then I just do a straight-up search of "linux" on AMD.com & now I am not really sure what I am looking at ... PDF files & other stuff, ugh.

Nonetheless, there will still come a point that I want to look @ something on a disc - music CD, pics, etc. So my OP problem still exists - open/explore D:\\ ...

I suck ...

I'm a little confused on what your trying to do. Are you trying to install Linux? Are you trying to install motherboard drivers to Linux Ubuntu? (If so, Linux comes with almost all the drivers you will need built into the kernal, no motherboard drivers needed)

EDIT: to install your video drivers it will recommend the best ones for you if you got to "system" "administration" and "additional drivers" then activate the recommended driver.

After reading this again you most likely have Linux installed already. The disk probably isn't executing because it was meant for Window$ and you don't need it for Linux anyway

Yes, I have Ubuntu 10.10 all up & running ... now I was going to follow up with all the updates, etc. --- suppose I have got Windows so engrained in my head that I cannot wrap my head around this Linux thing ... I suppose I better educate myself ... Should have done it before, but I put together a little nothing of a PC especially to run Ubu & to learn, so it is not affecting my other computers, etc.

Linux/Ubu seems to be pretty cool ...

It's different to say the least.

I find that the best way to learn about Linux is to dive head first into it.

I don't have any recent experience with Ubuntu since 9.10 I think, but if your trying to install graphics drivers, I suggest you google "Ubuntu 10.10 [or whatever version you have] graphics drivers [nvidia/ati]". Google is your greatest ally for Linux.
