New CPU in old system...

Thread Starter
I had an idea about a week ago to put a new CPU into my old DC7600... Unfortunately the HP website sucks and i cant get many specs on it.

I know it supports some Pentium D processors (940,950 and 960 it hink) but would i be able to run core 2 quad perhaps? Whats the best processor i could run on it?

Ok i read up on it... All i could find on people upgrading was from around 2007, upgrading to a pentium 950 D, after the 1.59 bios update. Its at 1.61 at the moment so im wondering what the bios supports now... The LGA 775 options are Pentium D, Core 2 Duo/Quad and the extreme editions (i would like to get this preferably if i can). Does anyone have any idea what my bios supports?

Intel's general statement is "if it fits the socket- it'll work".

What if the bios isnt ready? The latest update is 1.61 REV A and i think they added support for the Pentium D 950 (Dual Core) in the 1.58 or 1.59...
