Even at 4Ghz you'll be bottlenecked.

4Ghz 3Ghz NB X6 :

760 @ 4.2Ghz :

If your CPU is all ready at 4GHz usually to get the IMC to 2.6+ 1.3v+ volts is required. i have my CPU-NB at 2.8Ghz with 1.32v, try that and test stability. Other things you can try if you cant hit 2.6Ghz is to raise the NB volta alil along with the CPU-NB and loosen your ram timing. After you hit 2.6 or 2.8 slowly decrease voltage until lowest stable, then lower ram timings till lowest stable.

Not at all actually, did you actually look at the fps of both on the tests? the x6 is actually not behind much, that test calculates weird.

Keep in mind that benchmarks =/= real world performance.

Also PROTIP: Alt + tab and set the game to "high proirity" for the CPU.

I doubled my frames on CoP doing that and while it does lag *SOME* with the weird freeze everyone seems to get.. it happens almost none now.

Don't worry about FPS too much as long as your staying over 60.. and with a very similar rig to yours i never go under 60 hardly, WITHOUT the 4 ghz oc...

STALKER, Metro, and everything else stays insanely high fps.. Although I get in some cases lower "average" frames than the review websites.. its because, the review sites use crappy benchmarking software instead of really playing the game..
Thanks for that it makes me fill better lol, when do I do the ALT+TAB in the game ?so do I stay with amd or go intel,i think amd

The Featured test are just GPU only so no matter the CPU they will score about the same there. Look as first 2 test.
Also its not eh CPU its the platform. Core i5/7s will scale better end of story. AMD right now scales like Core 2 Quads (P45/X48).

10fps in the tests. That's a decent amount no matter how you slice it from a quad without HT against an X6

If it's the difference between 10FPS and 20FPS, then yea, I would agree, it's a big difference. Doubling FPS is always nice... Or what it if were 1FPS vs 11FPS, wow, over a 10 fold increase! That would be worthwhile!

The difference between 70 and 80, or 90 and 100FPS is approaching the point of meaningless.

Would 10FPS still be a huge deal to you if it were the difference between 990FPS and 1000FPS?

You did say "no matter how you slice it" so I could have to assume that you mean that no matter how small a difference 10FPS is actually making it "is a decent amount."

We have to look at this in perspective of what gains are worthwhile. Spending hundreds of dollars to convert over to an intel build to gain 13% FPS would be a complete waste of time, effort, and money.

My suggestion to the OP: Wait a few years, see how the platforms are stacking up, if intel is still offering better per-core performance and a higher top end then it may be worth considering a switch at that time. I would not suggest bothering with an upgrade unless it's going to make a noticeable difference... which means you have to wait for games to come out that are pushing you below 50-60FPS, when that happens, upgrade to a machine that will do 100FPS in those games.

Eric

I think it has been shown the i7 is going to give maybe a 10% lead over the amd processors or something. (Speaking of gaming only here)

When I was buying my build that mean a 300$ processor instead of a 150$ processor.

It also required triple channel ram and a mobo that was all if not double signifigantly more expensive than what I got.

If I were doing a lot of CPU intensive things it would be worth it.

However 150$ extra for a 10 fps bump? no thank you...

Spending 240$ on a gpu? sure.

Spending another 240$ to nearly double fps? absolutely!

doubling the price of the processor just to get 10 fps more? ehhhhhhhh

Now if we were talking 3 graphics cards where 10% was the difference in never dipping below 120 FPS for a 3D rig.. that might be different.. but, why make the guy feel bad about his rig?

Over what? an fps increase he most likely won't notice anyway? thats rediculous.
