Yeah but you could get silver or gold anyway Antec TP 650 watt or if you have more to spend Seasonic x650.

Sometimes. It's not a mark of a quality PSU, but at the same time it's very common for the high quality PSUs to have a good 80+ certification. So, even if a PSU has the Gold certification, it doesn't mean that it's a quality unit (although, I don't know of any examples yet because I'm just a hack at being a PSU guru these days), but yet some of the best PSUs have that Gold certification. It can be confusing, so just remember that just because it has a good 80+ Certification, it doesn't mean that it's safe to say that it's a quality PSU.

There's much more to be said, but the best way for me to say it is by posting these excellent short articles:

http://www.overclock.net/power-suppl...fficiency.html

http://www.overclock.net/power-suppl...load-myth.html

More articles: http://www.overclock.net/power-suppl...-articles.html

Of course, I have the HX650, so I am biased: I think it's a great PSU. It's not the best of the best, but it's up there. It was supposed to have a higher 80+ certification, but Corsair knocked it down by one Certification because their testing showed that it was a little less efficient in realistic conditions.

But just for the sake of it, another good 650W is the Antec TruePower New. However, its only partially modular. Although, it's still a pretty good unit (based on a good SeaSonic design - something like the M12II or something like that).

It might be more proper to specify something like:
"I am looking for a PSU with a minimum of an 80+ Bronze rating", as bronze is only the 2nd rung in a 5 rung rating system..

I'd go with the Seasonic x650, personally.

Yeah, very.

I will never steer you in a shady direction. It would be very unkind for me to recommend that you buy something bad, such as like an OCZ StealthXStream, or an Antec Basiq, or something else. I'll only recommend PSUs that I would be 100% confident and happy to power my sig rig with.

Check out what Phaedrus2129 has to say about the TruePower New series:

Combined the TP3 units with the SeaSonic M12D platform? Whatever they did, the result was pure awesomesauce on a bun, resulting in a superb 750W power supply that performs comparably to then reigning champion Corsair HX750, for the significantly lower price of the TX750. The voltage stability is excellent and the ripple suppression is too! And it's partially modular? Holy crap, this is amazing! And the 550W version can be had for a mere $65 AMIR at Newegg at time of writing. GO. BUY NOW. Seriously, that's the best PSU bang for the buck I've ever seen (Well, except for the SeaSonic M12D 850W for $140. But that only lasted, like, two days before they sold out so it doesn't really count. Wish I'd picked up on it, though).

The only thing dragging this line down is the partial modularity, and... Both 4+4 and 8-pin mobo connectors? You only need one of those cables on a 750W PSU, any system that needs both won't run on a 750W unit in all liklihood. But otherwise they're superb! They make the Corsair TX series obsolete, and give the HX series a run for its money.
