IBT Spanked my Q6600 so hard...

Thread Starter
I just tried overclocking my work PC, nothing fancy, just took it up to 2.8GHz at 1.32V

Well...

IBT starts running and I watch my temps start flying. From 40oC I see them at 55oC, 65oC, Freeze, Crash Bang Wallop, Overheat.

Rebooted and found that IBT spanked my CPU so hard my core temps at idle had gone up 10oC.

Took the overclock off after that and found 5 mins in IBT will get my stock temps up to 72oC so I guess this cooler isn't man enough for the job.

It's a scythe shuriken low profile jobbie. Also, ambient in my computer case is abysmal. I have 1 intake fan and my outtake fan IS my PSU.

This PC will be staying stock then frown.gif

That's what you get for buying a £12 case (which to it's credit is very good for the price I payed) I guess.

I may have to get the jigsaw out and provide some additional ventilation. axesmiley.png

I'm wondering a little bit if I should reseat the cooler, it runs about 40-45 idle on stock. The northbridge throws off so damned much heat though. Just putting your hand near it you can feel the raised temps around the CPU block. The ambient must be about 35 inside the case. eek.gif
