Hello everyone, i've been thinking to overclock my i7 920 to 3.0 ghz, on a stock cooler. I'm useing a gtx 580 call of duty black ops edition, and i7 920 stock clocked, with a 700w PSU. Right now my gtx 580 is RMA'd, but can i oc my cpu, without frying the system, with a 700w Coolermaster PSU.

Should be fine. What's the model number on your PSU?

Problem is, i dont know the model. But when i bought my computer it had 2x 4870 and the i7, and it has 6gb ram, so wouldent it be a good PSU?

Just take a peak in the case and look at the model number. Should be good, but I'd just like to make sure.

I'll do it some time.

700w Coolermaster PSU is not the great of a PSU. At best it's about a 600w.

And there we go. If it managed 600W you could pull this off, but I wouldn't risk it.

Go with Antec, CORSAIR or COUGAR PSU. At least 650 watts.

If i want to spend 300$ On a new PSU and a CPU cooler, could i achieve good enough equipment to oc it to 4.0 ghz?

Give me some links for the best PCU and Cpu cooler.

Sure.
Corsair TX750
Prolimatech Megahalem

That has a lot of cash to spare too. For U$300 you could get that PSU with a liquid cooling system. Up to you if you wanna mess with that or not.
