Not unless you push past recommended safe voltages and/or exceed maximum temperatures, both of which are kind of difficult to do when you have an entire site of people here guiding you

Welcome to OCN!
p.s. the CPU is not the only overclockable thing. GPU's and Ram can be too!

Ocing is both a good thing and bad thing. It shorten the life on your computer, but not be much 1 year or 2 max. If done safely. Most cpu are design to last about 10-15 years.
Ocing is Tim Taylor saying of MORE POWER.

When the process of overclocking is executed with knowledge and reason the lifespan of your CPU (or other OC'd components) will not be shortened beyond the viable (relatively speaking) lifespan of the socket type or generation of hardware.

Most people here will move on to a new generation (perhaps several generations) of architecture before the CPU or other components fail.

There are some instances of failure even when OC'ing is executed with caution and within tolerable parameters, but that is just part of the gig.... and a part of the excitement. It is notable that components running at factory settings can also fail.

Do it correctly and youll be fine. its not to difficult to do tho. just get a general concept of it and you can get a decent overclock without having to fuss with every little spec, just the major ones.

Approach it with knowledge and understanding and u'll be fine, it will also give you a much deeper understanding of how your machine works.
