That's pretty much pushing past the limit of the stock heatsink though. Not to mention, if you can't even afford a $30 dollar heatsink, why bother buying the 1090T? Might as well buy a x2 and unlock or a x4 and use that "saved" money to build a better overall system.

My 1090T with stock retail cooler runs at 3.7GHz at 53C during intense multi-threaded operations.

The cooler has 4 heatpipes and a copper base -- not typical for a stock cooler. My guess is it's a $30 cooler (as opposed to the standard $6 cooler).

I prepped the cooler with ArtiClean thermal compound remover and applied a rice-grain squirt of artic silver. My ASUS M4A88TD-M/USB3 "auto OC" BIOS feature took about 30 seconds and set the FSB is 235MHz, but did not seem to change the multiplier. When I have time I will hand-tune the system. With 53C at 3.7GHz, I don't think 3.8 will be a challenge, but I'm not too concerned; in a month or so I'm getting a water cooler.

People diss the 1090T stock cooler as "only good for stock speeds". Maybe they only know the OEM BE CPUs and haven't seen the Phenon II BE stock cooler. My previous retail X2 BE CPU stock cooler had the standard $6 cooler -- I almost didn't even unfold the cardboard around the cooler.

retail = cooler
oem = no cooler

doesn't matter if it's a BE

and the stock HSF is much better than a stock X4 HSF imo

but still crappy compared to a cheap 212+

It does but it's trash. I think I had heftier NB coolers in my 478 days.

^^ This. I bought the 1090T a few days ago (might be a week). At stock clocks and volts, with Prime95 torture test (sorry for the noob speak, don't know if you're an OCer or not), it goes up to 55C (official limit), and 5200!!! RPM, its like sitting next to an F16. Thats with stock thermal compound as well. I'm waiting on better fans, a good CPU cooler (I'd recommend Noctua/Silver Arrow etc. Any high class essentially), and a fan controller, and Arctic Silver 5 before I reseat etc. Only THEN will I worry about performance/noise lvl, OC, heat, etc.
