Lol that's like 25$ more than the Corsairs I recommended. I lol'd pretty hard, considering that everyone says Corsair are overpriced

As for choosing which set, xd_1771, I suck at this quite hard. I don't have an understanding of what is compatible with what, so I've no idea what characteristics to look for in a RAM stick to suit my setup that's why I'm here asking for help from you guys haha

something else I thought of.. what about clearance with that monstrous Noctua cooler? Any sort of tall RAM sticks will mean I need to change to a different cooler, right? :S anyone know for sure if this will work? A few people have recommended this instead as a lower-cost option also: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=14858

The V8 would block the inner slots for tall DIMM's but that's about it; I'm pretty sure it's the same deal even with a huge Noctua cooler, but just in case...
Hurrr similar RAM with lower profile heatspreaders

So really I should be looking at something like that regardless, so it gives me more options with CPU coolers?

If you wish I guess, sometimes RAM with better IC's may have taller heatspreaders for the same or lower price, but the NQ's are a good choice.

Savage, I would really drop the 2TB drive and replace it with this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227610
it's 40GB but the performance you get with it is definitely worth the sacrifice.

SSD is something I considered after someone suggested one earlier. There was a brief conversation on them earlier in the thread; nobody could really give me definitive reasons why they are better / things I will notice run faster, and there was mention of the drawbacks of investing in emerging technology, hence my selection of the Caviar Black 1TB for OS/applications/games and the Caviar Green 2TB for bulk storage. I'm considering dropping the size of the black anyway to save a little money - no way will I have need for 1TB of games!! Even 500GB is probably on the high side so there's money to be saved there.

Also considering dropping to a lower cost cooler, with budget in mind. If I can knock a couple of hundred dollars out somewhere that'd be awesome, even 100 would be a step in the right direction

As it stands I will not be purchasing a new GPU at this point in time, planning on just getting it up and running with the 9800GT and adding another card as time goes on.

Thoughts on budget-sensible adjustments welcome!

RAM: does this look like a sensible pick? I don't really understand RAM specs.. I need something low-pro to fit under that monster Noctua cooler that'll also be optimised to my motherboard/CPU combination.

Thanks!

Looks okay, not entirely sure about prices in Australia but judging from what I have seen that doesn't look too bad. If by monster Noctua you mean the NH-D14, they can actually fit quite a lot underneath; I've done some research and even my upcoming Mushkin Ascents should fit under an NH-D14. For reference, there's 45mm between board & first fin.

OK guys since I've fixed my other pc running the 9800GT, I need to pick a GPU for this one that'll be a good strong setup in itself.

GTX460 has been recommended as a good cost:result option, but which one's the pick of the bunch??

Gaming @ 1920x1080 is the aim. Will OC the card.

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...&cPath=193_687

The 2gb card comes factory OC'd which I don't need... so it's wasted money there.. however it is 2gb, if it's worth it on this setup I can stretch the budget to accommodate.

Let me know what you think!! I'll pretty much go by the information I get from you guys on here since I don't know enough to make this decision myself.
