[CNN] Activision CEO: 'Call of Duty' is like Facebook, texting

Instant messaging, texting, Facebook, and ... "Call of Duty?"

The "Call of Duty" games effectively adapt to changing communication habits, Bobby Kotick, the CEO of game publisher Activision, told CNN on Tuesday.

And that could be the smoking gun in the franchise's takeover of the video-game industry.

EDIT: Also, found this part interesting:
Quote:
"Multiplayer has been largely developed by Treyarch," even in games like "Modern Warfare," which were credited to Infinity Ward, Kotick said. "I don't think Treyarch got their due for how much they contributed in the production and polish to the multiplayer."

CNN Article

Hmmmmm.

I would agree in that it's almost like an expected thing in youth culture.

Got Facebook? Yeah!
Got a mobile? Yeah!
Got CoD? Yeah!

Every kid nowadays has them... hell, even I do.

The elitist hate for kotick just baffles me. The majority of people disagree with the 'enlightened' haters.

Probably because Kotick is even more in his own world than Steve Jobs is. And that's saying something (and this is coming from an ex-avid Mac user). Kotick thinks that his ONE franchise is the end-all, be-all of gaming, and really it's just a rehash of previous installments from the franchise. He's a lunatic.

Ok Kotick, I understand where you're coming from....However this sort of popular "spotlight" happens to to all well known games. It happened to Pokemon, WOW, and even Rock Band/Guitar Hero. Nothing new here people, keep it moving...
