[CNN] Activision CEO: 'Call of Duty' is like Facebook, texting - Page 9

The "Call of Duty" series is just a miserable rehash that features a carrot and stick routine. People love earning achievements, new weapons, attachments, medals, and badges. In reality that sort of reward system is just a bogus treadmill that only adds the allusion of depth. Yet, year in and year out, Activision and other development studios get away with rolling out the EXACT same garbage with marginal gameplay advancement. The core that drives the player base here is watching the same mediocre rewards pop up every couple of matches.

There really is a massive dumbing down of society going on here. Gamers get fooled into thinking this cash cow series is anything but a new island get away for the venture capitalists.

People buy these games because its what they enjoy playing....stop complaining about the graphics or comparing it to bc2/L4D/L4D2...I own Black Ops and BC2 and I can honestly say I prefer Black Ops gameplay over BC2 because of its fast paced twitched infantry-type gameplay. Back in the days everyone played CS 1.6 at home or pc gaming cafe because it was enjoyable and the thing to play. Nowadays people like to play whats obviously enjoyable to them and for every new COD or CS or BF that comes out, you already know people will buy into it for newer content etc. But ultimately have similar or yet better game experience in the story mode and multiplayer to the title it successes.

So if I'm reading this right... Treyarch ruined CoD?

CoD 1+2 MP is vastly superior, at least IMO.

I love all the quotes in the article, the person who wrote it sounds like my girlfriend after I've been on a black ops binge.

"Your "video game" is keeping me up at night Jake, if you want to "pwn noobs" you can go elsewhere and do it but not here."

Blah blah blah

Odd. I find BC2 to be twitchy and I play CS Source as well.

Maybe that's just me. :3

The last good CoDs were CoD1, CoD2, and CoDMW. Every other one just sucked IMHO.

Actually COD is pretty standard with people in my age group. Im a freshman, and COD is basically what guys my age do after school when we don't have sports or schoolwork to do. Then again, I go to a science and tech magnet school, so my experience may not be valid in the rest of the world.

I think you misunderstood what I was getting at...

In fact, you've clarified my point. Those games that I mentioned are still big, and have pushed millions of copies. It seems that Kotick has neglected the fact that Black Ops isn't the only game that has sold big numbers and sadly failed to acknowledge the success of other franchises.
