Yeah exactly, like I said, it doesn't boost the FPS, it decreases loading times when zoning. You said it doubled your framerates. It won't increase the FPS much, but it definately helps with loading times.

And yes, it is on my SSD.

This. That is a ton of screen to fill. It sounds like you have no issue. Also, crossfire scaling and amd drivers. Sorry.

WoW is definitely playing smooth though..I guess the 2GB VRAM helps

Thanks guys
Honestly, its just the weak coding they did. Don't blame the machine. Like said above their biggest coding quirk is the shadows. If you shut those off or turn down low you will see a huge FPS increase.

Not true. I run SLi on my system and both my GTX 285's peg at ~30% usage each. WoW definately utilizes SLi. It just doesn't need it unless you have some very old cards.

OP, its due to the drivers need to get up there a bit and WoW is more CPU/HD base than GFX cards. But you are saying it runs smooth, then I'd say your good. Wait a tad for a new update to drivers.

It actually looks much better when you crank up all the settings, they have done a lot of work with patches over the years.

Having said that I think there is still much more they can do to optimize it, theres no reason why it cant run without hick-ups on my system. It does lock up sometimes, and wow would not be where it is today without its third party addons.

EDIT: Maybe it will run better when I replace my E8400 with my Q6600, replace the TIM on my 4850, and overclock both later today. Not to mention a windows reinstall. I have a busy day today.

I agree with shrimpy about the internet. I quit playing and cancelled my account 2 months ago, but the the 7 months prior to that I played the whole time on the wifi my evo puts out. And ran pretty darned good at that, raiding LK, winning pvp'ing and all else. The game actually consumes very little internet, and even 3g can keep up with the latencies needed in it to be competitive.

SSD does not boost FPS, but it does increase loading times, which if switching zones, porting around (yes I have a mage too, who doesn't) etc. is very nice. I actually really enjoyed having WoW on my SSD, but to say it really effects PERFORMANCE is a bit of an over statement.

I think your results for being on 3 screens is great. Like I said before, turn down shadows to like half way and tell us what happens to your numbers.

You have to forgive Amstech, he over exaggerates... everything and is generally giving the worst advice and recommendations I have ever seen. A SSD will just decrease load times, and speed up data caching. You will get no FPS from this.

To OP: I get weird performance when I SLi enable the 580s. Sometimes its great 170fps, then after a while it gets weird and stuttery performances that sometimes dips to 40s and I have never figured out why. ALT+TABBING in and out seems to help quite a bit for about 30 minutes then I have to do it again. Even if I disable SLi, and use only one card, this bug eventually finds me too, and I will have 75~90fps then plummet to 30fps for no reason (not moving, not doing anything really) and then will slowly get back up. GPU usage is all over the place, sometimes its solid 33%, sometimes it fluctuates between 53~67%, sometimes it spikes to 99%, sometime it spikes to 1%. This looks like poor optimization to me.. or perhaps TOO much optimization has occurred and it doesn't know how to handle all the extra horsepower my machines have.

The 6970 with extra VRAM shouldn't have much of a problem doing this setup, this is WoW. There is no official multi-gpu support in WoW, so if it works/uses two or more GPUs, consider yourself lucky. You do need a good amount of speed on your CPU to take off the bottlenecking from BOTH WoW and the Multi-gpus. You should also have a high Northbridge frequency too.

I have also heard that some people load up a second game, and leave it minimize (if they have the RAM) and try running WoW to trick the computer into using the GPUs. That seems like hocus pocus to me, but some claim it works.

Edit: All of that is on Ultra by the way.

@Pao, I also ran WoW on a 3g connection like that almost, and WoW really doesn't use that much. Having a high ping in WoW is normal for most people and for me doesn't bother me unless im having real lag, and that usually is due to the games fault, if its like patch day or something.
