You do realize that BC2 is a testbed for BF3, right? Sure, BC2 is it's own separate game, but the physics and mechanics and engine are all test beds for BF3.

I bought BF2 on steam for 5 bucks the other day. Maybe in it's time it was great, but I couldn't get into it.

I agree with you. Maybe its different in the UK. It must be. In the US its norm to see maybe guessing 5 out of 32, every 32 man server you go to. T-90 making head shots across the map. Google bfbc2 hacks 61,900 hits
Even on the PPBan servers. They have ban 1000's. Its not uncommon to watch 5 or 6 get ban during one match on PPBan servers. MBL.
No. Simply no. Check PB, you'll realize there's a huge proportion of cheaters who are Russian. Hell, if you check the latest 50 PBbans, more than 30 are Russian. 3 are Asian, only 4 are American, and the rest are European. So that's more than 80% of cheaters who are European in the last 3 days.

Stop crying hacker at every turn. I play in Europe but mostly in the US and I barely see one per gaming session.

What we need is a pro active approach like StarCraftII. Not only do you lose the key code and software. You will never connect to the network with that computer ever. Hardware ban. Sure some get around it. At what cost?

Its EA's network, Its EA's TOS. They pass ball to Even balance. Now go to Evenbalance website. The website looks like it was written in 1995. Do you trust them with network security? That's what we are talking about here.
Locks only keep an honest man honest. If you have a rusty broken lock on your door, even an honest man will walk in and steal from you.

Actually PB did do hardware bans, although not any more I don't think. There are two issues. The first is that a hardware ban is easier to dodge than a software ban. I forget quite how it works, but it uses a unique number to recognise your hardware (can't remember if that is a MAC code or something else). However, upon receiving a hardware ban, you can easily spoof MAC numbers and get going again.

The second issue is well, something you don't want to hear, one of revenue. Ban players outright from your games and they don't buy more copies of the game when they get banned! DICE and EA are businesses, so that is something to bear in mind.

The main thing that really needs to be done is ensuring GSP's lock down all server files on ranked boxes. Exploits like aimbots and chams you can never get rid of, it's all damage limitation. PB does a very good job of it (it used to be awful!), but, like I said earlier, it's a whack-a-mole game. By locking down root access to servers, we prevent cheats such as account spoofing, dropping things from the sky (like UAV's) etc...

I know it seems crazy, but PB is actually a very good tool since the pnkbstrb.exe update a year or so ago. It's quite effective at catching cheats, but, it's only as effective as those feeding it the watch list.

I bought BF2 as well in that sale, even though I already own the box copy, just to support. It's certainly not the same anymore, the servers right now are a joke.

In all honesty I have only seen around 10 hackers since I started playing BC2 on release date, and I play enough. There may have been more but they weren't flamboyant about it. e.g 360 spin headshots, tracking people through walls, "locking on" to player after player.

I used to say PB was better then VAC. Although PB had and still does have many problems where it effs with legitimate players, I said to myself, at least when they catch a hacker they have a really stiff ban. PB used to have Global GUID, Mac address and multiple types of hardware bans. Which could render your whole computer system useless if you were caught. But they stopped doing this. Now the worst that happens, your game get's banned.

VAC can render all games on your Steam account useless and it doesn't screw over legitimate players so much. Problem is, with it's delayed bans, it does nothing to stop a hacker tearing up your server right now. That's where admins come in, but if there not there. Your screwed.

Incorrect (just thought I'd let you know) if you cheat in a Source game, you're banned from all VAC Source game servers, but can still play COD/any other game including older non-source games.

i think the numbers of lost customers lost from hackers, out numbers the amount of hackers. Alot of people just stop playing games because of them, or because of people they assume are hacking. There is no foolproof err hackproof system out there that can be 100% effective. Like you said, they do the best they can. The more popular the game, the more hackers are attracted to it, it is a good way to see the life of the game.

The EULA and TOS are written by EA.
http://tos.ea.com/legalapp/eula/US/en/PC/

With revenue in mind does that stop Steam from selling games, or Battle.net? Both of which if your caught cheating you don't use those services. I call that network security.

You buy BF3 and connect to the EA network and plan on winning. You lower your morals and buy the cheat. Or you turn into point food.

alex98uk your a great spokesmen for the gaming community. I appreciate your thoughts and posts. I hope EA can turn this around before BF3 is launched.
