I am a die hard BF fan that has bought everything available on PC since 1942. Although I've noticed a trend with BF and many other franchises. Once you go console you can't go back.
COD used to be realistic, lot's of recoil, proper damage, they didn't put anything that didn't exist in the time period. COD2 was a PC game ported to console. COD 2 didn't sell that great, so then they worked on MW1 and then it all started. Followed by W@W which is like a re-skin, "Aperture Sight" for RedDot, Flares for Flashbangs, etc...
Although BC2 did sell better on PC compared to xBox 360 & PS3, the two consoles combined sold more. So they will tailor the game to them.
Console don't like realism, so expect things that don't exist and things that don't make scene. Expect things like noobified flight controls of BC2, self righting vehicles that can't tip over. Very dumbed down HUD's and GUI's.
I'm willing to give DICE one last chance, although BC2 & BC2:Vietnam has really made me lose hope.
Basically I'm going to make a list of things to avoid. If there are many of these present then it's a safe bet that it's a console oriented game, it's the direction of games there going into and you will never truly get that BF2 or 2142 "Successor".
Perk Systems like BC2's SPEC system, basically a rip of COD's perk system to get COD noobs to play.
Auto Regenerating health
Very small ammunition reserves, notice how COD only gives you like 2 spare magazines? It's because your generally not gonna stay alive long enough to expend a full battle load. Like BF2 you got by default 8 Magazines for a total of over 200rds.
Absence of fire selectors. If you can't select your fire rate e.g Semi-Auto or Full-Auto on the appropriate weapons.
Lack of Commanders
Absence of the classic 64 player game
Many game modes other then Conquest. e.g Squad Conquest, etc...
Absence of Jets
Too much "tacticool" gun gadgets, e.g too many accessories and gun camos, that COD style stuff.
Maps not equivalent to BF2 maps in size. Anything less is a console port.
Lack of prone. Sorry but it's a fundamental battle position. Yea yea apparently it destroys "Fast pace action". I'll let that one slide for BC2 but BF3 shouldn't be about fast pace COD style games, it should be about getting your face in the ground sometimes (prone) and being pinned down for 15 minutes. If it's implemented properly there won't be prone spam or dolphin diving.
Crap that don't exist, tracer darts and other noob systems. What was wrong with BF2's, wire guided AT. Worked wonders against choppers. Same for 2142's portable heat seeking missiles.
Screwed up gun stats and arcade balance. M16 is more accurate but M4A1 does more damage. Or semi-auto shotty does less damage because it is semi and pump shotty does more. NO, some weapons are just better. Find other ways of balancing. Like mobility. Pump shotty is lighter so faster ADS, etc...
There's way more, but that's all I can think of for now. If too many of the above are present, it's not a successor to BF2, but a console port.
