be happy that they gave us a time line, AND STOP PICKING APART A GAME THAT ISNT OUT YET.....you dont know, so be patient and wait till THEY RELEASE MORE INFO before you start screaming at each other....if its as easy as you all say it is to add prone to code, im sure they would have done it.....personally i like not having prone...

Which may also be a problem. A measly 50ms extra ping of one player can throw off the position/direction/speed of those effects completely and still leave us where we are now with client-side processing. The ragdoll effects for games are also processed client-side, as my friends always see different ragdoll positions than I do in games like CS:S. It doesn't make sense to me why one person's CPU/GPU would throw the ragdoll in a different position/speed than another person's. If the game instructs your CPU/GPU to do something, why would it do something else? Maybe it's a flaw in the coding itself?

It's this attitude that puts me off EA titles, even battlefield.

Sure they've made Bad Company 2 a good shooter by realistic/destructive enviroments, but then take out a crucial, simple element like going prone?

Just seems like another quick half-assed money making title to me. I lose respect for their games and them as a company.

+Rep on that. Quit your damn whining and just be happy knowing that you're even GETTING a BF3. Christ.

And nubcakes: BC2 was a completely different game than BF2, so quit comparing what you can and can't do. Two completely different methods of team work are involved.

Alright.. everyone chill out. lol
This is a great thread.

But about the whole client side processing stuff: I have always wondered the exact same thinf, how could the same input result is such different outputs if the hardware is essentially doing the same thing. There must be more to it.

Edit: New keyboard.. sorry

atleast now people man up and take their shots instead of diving then shooting. It would also make it near impossible to kill long range snipers because only a smidgen of their head would be visible, and you cant see that from a long distance. The complexity of the environment is a legitimate reason why it cant be done. Terrian isnt just flat anymore with little bumps and valleys, just look at the vietnam maps for the massive complexity of the terrain.

While i miss prone, it has without a doubt improved the quality of the game. Allowing prone will end up must having more people using tubes and launchers for everything.
Yea they should make it so it takes a while to go and come out of prone, haha.

http://bf3nation.com/2010/08/frostbi...for-pc-gamers/

Firstly, we learn via Twitter from DICE rendering architect Johann Andersson the engine BF3 is built on — Frostbite 2.0 — is “primarily developed for DirectX 11″; XP and DX9 won’t be supported (though you may be able to hack it). Also the engine will be especially optmized for 64-bit — thankfully a lot of you have chosen the road less travelled. Good news in itself, but since consoles only support DX9, the implication is the PC version will be a “true†PC game.

don't start crying yet, let's get some details first guys! I'm just glad to hear it will be 2011.

Agreed, it'll help weed out the "lower" PC gamers, keeping only the most dedicated, experienced ones for BF3 Although pretty much all retail PCs now are 64-bit. I think 2011 will make the final push to get people to move on from XP to 7.

I could care less about proning. Its not a crucial aspect of gaming.
