Driver sweeper EVIL.....??????????

Thread Starter
Okay im asking because after using driver sweeper i had to reinstall my OS wich is win7...And after doing some researching i have read a lot saying that you should not use Driver sweeper as it will delete registry files only with win7..

So after my install i went and bought Driver cleaner and after doing some more google'ing and talking to a few people i found that you shouldn't use any 3rd party cleaner as it will end with a reinstall...And that win7 is really good about getting out what it needs to..

So what are your thoughts...

When you used it, did you begin by uninstalling the ATi display drivers through the Windows control panel? Or, did you just go straight to Driver Sweeper without actually "uninstalling" first?

Most 'driver cleaner' utilities are garbage.
If you're upgrading driver versions you only need to run the installer..

I did like i was spose to...

uninstall in windows--restart in safe mod--ran driver sweeper---restart and install...

And that is when stuff starting to happen like drivers having warnings when installing and gray screen on stock clocks just opening up a game.. and blue screens when shutting down comp with no OC...

I don't understand why people pay for a driver sweeper when you can get it for free?

Oh, you used Driver Cleaner? That's the problem right there. I have never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever heard of anyone having problems with Driver Sweeper. But with Driver Cleaner? Yep!

I've used Driver Sweeper (not Driver Cleaner... Driver Sweeper) more than a hundred times, and I've never had problems. Ever. It has been absolutely problem-free for me, so I love using it. But Driver Cleaner? OMG NO.

So use Driver Sweeper, not Driver Cleaner. It's free, and it's superior.

Phyxion says that the latest "stable" version is 2.7.5. But I don't know if that's out-dated information or not. I mean, I suppose it's possible that 2.8 might not be 100% stable in their opinion.
