Overclocking Palit Geforce 8600GT Super+ 1024

Wasn't sure where to post this so I'll give it a go here. I just started dabbling in overclocking and just saw some strange results. I'm using EVGA Precision 2.0.1 and benchmarking with Furmark 1.8.2

Original card specs:
Core Clock: 540
Shader Clock: 1296
Memory Clock: 500

After making changes in increments of 5 to 10 here's what I came up with. I have a feeling I could keep going but I'm pretty happy with where it's at.

I initially left it at the following specs:
Core Clock: 680
Shader Clock: 1632
Memory Clock: 520

Furmark Score: 397
Max GPU Temp: 81c

I then decided to push it to:
Core Clock: 700
Shader Clock: 1680
Memory Clock: 535

Furmark Score: 1738
Max GPU Temp: 78c
Idle Temp: 55c

So far it is running fine. I'm about to do a serious test on it to see if it holds up under load over time.

I'm just curious why there would be such a huge change in scores from furmark? Is it a software fluke or is it just that magic sweet spot?

Thanks

you need to run some vantage benchmarks, or warhead benchtool is good to check with also, use 2 runs at each clock settings at least and check for improvements.
