Have you given the POP series a try? They are action games or adventure, I guess, but, you get a lot of platforming, puzzles to solve and combat to top it off and they are pretty cheap to pick up since they came out a while back(2003, 2004 and 2005)

the prince of persia games; sands of time (not to be confused with "the forgotten sands"), warrior within and two trones are actually really good.

there is a HD version for the PS3.

anyhow, i dont think you will like it just because you like SMB.
