ATI 5970 Crossfire FAIL! - Page 4

Please explain to me why you would ever run a quad-fire setup like that to push 1920x1080 pixels. Why? I could max out all my games except Crysis on a single 4890 at that resolution.

Is it e-peen because you sure don't seem like a competitive bencher.

I would like to have eyefinity at high resoultions that work. 1980 is fine resolution - but I'm not wanting to play on one screen.

World of Warcraft doesn't support much modern hardware since the release of Cataclysm.

I can no longer overclock my 460's or WoW will shut down.

I've already talked to a GM and he said that WoW no longer supports overclocks in certain maps and will actually downclock your hardware.

"We're trying to use as much of your hardware as possible but please disable any overclock you have on any of your hardware since it will now cause instability."

WoW now has the ability to tap into your BIOS and make whatever settings they see fit now eh?

To me, it just sounds more like the card did not have a stable overclock, or the drivers need to be updated to meet the demands of the newest build of the game. I wouldn't buy what that GM is selling, though, as what he said doesn't make any sense. If they really are trying to use as much of your hardware as possible then they should be able to make use of a stable overclock.

Please listen to anyone saying switch to Nvidia. I personally had a 5970 which being ATI's top of the line card you shouldnt need more than 1. I gladly traded the 5970 for 1 gtx480 and was super happy. I only got another for multi-display and because I got a good deal.
Here is my first hand account of dealing with ATi CRAP!

Here is another by someone else with a similar story

The gtx580 looks impressive and appears to be on par with the 6970. Is it worth giving ati one last shot with the 6970? I've read the 6970 has fantastic drivers and is every bit the card the 5970 should have been. Any thoughts?

A 6970 is. Step down from 5970. Wait a little while for users to start having issues with them as well. Get 2 580s as they are faster than 6970s and scale much better with overclocking as well. Use driver sweeper when you get them to get rod of any ati drivers.

Get a single GPU card and don't Crossfire or SLI. Some games will have problems with more than one GPU and since you don't like troubleshooting you should stay away.

Nvidia's multi-monitor display is called Surround, you need SLI to run this feature.

I had Quadfire 5970's with Eyefinity a few months and didn't have a problem. I only switched because I like the way Nvidia cards display smoke and other things more than AMD.
