I just went to best buy and got a wd caviar black... I left the computer on, when I came back it was on sleep mode. I click on mouse and it was working normal. Now I installed the new hd and it froze on the windows 7 logo instalation, so I change ports from sata1 to sata6, restart it and now is at expanding windows files (28%)...

I believe the problem wasnt the HD. Ill see for how long it will run. But if is not the HD, does windows 7 instalation process uses memory? Because that's my next step to check this problem, remove one stick at a time, but if it crashed on windows 7 installation would this mean i could not be the memory if it does not use it? Because after memory my last idea is the MB. Which I was praying not to be. To remove the whole water cooling and take everything apart will be a pain in the ass.

thoughts?

Every process on the pc uses memory, so it certainly could be that. I feel your pain...one of the reasons I haven't gone to WC yet is the additional time it takes to troubleshoot issues like this.

Ok ill try memtest now as it just lock up. I had my hopes that the problem was solved as since yesterday after installing the new HD and a clean windows 7 install I did not have any issues until... now. So It's not the hard drive. Ill just go for the memory test now to see how it goes.

question: which of this memtest should i use? memtest, memtest86 or memtest86+? Also should I test all 4 sticks or one at a time?

thanks man for keeping with me on this as this seens never to end... rep +

I think 86+ is the latest memtest. I would run it for at least an hour with all the sticks in to see if anything pops up. If no errors show up, you can run a 12 hour test or a 24 hour test if you are ambitious. Do be aware that plenty of people have run memtest for 24+ hours error free and still have memory-related crashes...memtest is not the end-all be-all of memory testing. You can also run an Orthos blend test to test ram.

What voltage do you have your mem running at? I remember having to bump the volts on my mem to get it to work correctly.
