Phenom ii x4 955 cooling and question

Thread Starter
So I just bought the 955 and I was wondering if I need to buy a heatsink and if someone could recommend me a good one. I also have another question that doesn't really have much to do with this, but will i need anything like a internet card to be able to access the internet or no? Thanks

not sure what you are asking about the internet...are you building a totally new computer or putting the 955 into your current computer?

if you don't plan on overclocking the cpu, then the stock heatsink that comes with the cpu is sufficient. if you do plan on overclocking, there are numerous suggestions i could make depending upon your price range/hardware.

quick tip: in order to get more informed responses, navigate to your user cp, and then to add a system and put in your system information. the more we know about your rig, the more we can help you

welcome to ocn!

Im building a new computer. What I mean about the internet is that I know that in some pc's they have these internet card things and I don't know if I need one or not. I updated my system. Yes I plan on overclocking. Whats the price range on heatsinks?

any gigabyte 880 motherboard has an ethernet connection. if you are wanting to connect to wifi, you'll have to get a wireless pci or pci-e card. the price ranges of cpu heatsinks varies...you can get a decent one for $20 with the highest end ones ranging from $80-$100. the best three i can think of are a noctua dh-14, thermalright silver arrow, and an h50 or h70 but those are all in the $70+ price range. zalman, scythe, and cooler master all make some good ones in the $50 range.

If you buy a heatsink, buy the best you can get. It will last over 5 years maybe. Coolink Corator DS is very good heatsink, about the same performance as Noctua NH-D14 is. In some reviews even better. Costs 50€ here in Finland.
