4850 temps question

Thread Starter
So I just installed a Q6600, overclocked it to 3ghz (for now).

However I also replaced the thermal compound on my Sapphire 4850, it how is idling at 45 degrees and under load it goes up to about 52 degrees.

Are these good temps? I understand if I over-clock it I should aim for about 700 core clock and try not to exceed 70 degrees. So how do I stand with regards to temp right now?

It's an old card, I know. But this is my last stand with it, I plan to upgrade some time in 2011.

First of all, the 4850 is an awesome card. I used it for a very long time and had a great time with it. I pulled a constant 60+ fps in Black Ops and could easily run BFBC2 at max settings (minus AA) at 1680x1050. Just because it is a little "old" doesn't mean it is a bad card, it's awesome.

When I was running it, I got about 40c-50c at load with my XFX 4850 1GB. I set the core clocks at 700MHz and the fan's at 100%. I also only had 3 low RPM 120mm fans in my case. 2 in's one out.

What fan speeds are you running at?

I think my fan speed is 30% but I'm not sure where to look in rivatuner to find that.

My case is an Antec 900 so it has a lot of airflow.

Is there a program I should be using other then rivatuner?

Hi,

Have to agree that the 4850 is just one of those cards ahead of its time
when first released. No DX11 slight flaw though.

Running the 1gig card in other halfs Dell and maxed out as to core and mem
with CCC it is a hot running card. Ram heat sinks and extra side panel fan
helped alot.

But handles anything thrown at it although have to back down eye candy settings but keeps up amazingly.

Use your "Catalyst Control Center", open up "Ati Overdrive", unlock the gpu by clicking the lock symbol, then "enable manual fan control" and set it desired speed.

My friend has a 4850, he runs it about 70% fan speed but with an Arctic Twin Turbo cooler which is dead silent. Play around with the speed and see what noise levels suit you the most.

Bring the fan up to 80%-100%, set a temperature to fan speed curve and you'll be fine. Use ATI Catalyst Control Center or MSI Afterburner. Riva Tuner is great too though.
