i7 950 4ghz HT off vs 3.6ghz HT on - Page 2

Thread Starter
I just want to raise the clock enough to not bottleneck my GPU's. If I am getting cooler temperatures at 4ghz HT off than 3.6 HT on I figured I would give it a try. I do record and produce music so the extra threads might be benificial. I've gotten it up to 3.8 with HT on so I might just stick there. I am at about 75C full load and it never goes above 60-65C in BF2 and COD BO. I guess I'll just stick to this until I get my new motherboard and 980x so I can reseat the H70. Also, I switched the H70 to exhaust and that raised my temps a bit.

I agree that you should revisit your H70 installation, doesn't seem right.

At 4.2ghz with my air cooler I max temp is 80 after 50 runs of LinX.

what header do you have the H70 pump on? sure it's on the CPU FAN header on the motherboard?

The pump is running on the "power fan" header and it's running at 1400 RPM. The two fans I installed are running at 1700 RPM like they are supposed to be. I sincerely don't think it's an installation issue. These H70's are great but they aren't miracle workers. My room is 73F at the stat and most likely around 76F at the side intake of the computer. The computer is in a media room with tons of electronics that create heat like a Pioneer Kuro, audio rack, projector, etc... I didn't expect geniune WC loop temps when I bought it. Sure, if I turn the AC on or open the windows on a cold night I would expect 5-10C cooler temps but I like to run Prime based on average room temps.

you need to reseat your block, those ambient temps (if accurate) are fine. how much thermal paste did you use?

Yes like others said Try the following:

For Temp:
- Rest your Block
- Rest your Tim (Take care of the size)
- Try to use (Push/Pull) Fan setup

For HT:
- I advice you to keep it ON, it will help you really much more than its OFF, you will notice that with every thing you are doing (Gaming, Encoding, Benching...).
- Take a Look at my Thread (This) i was as you between 4.6 HT off and 4.3 HT ON and i ended up with 4.3 HT ON, i feel much comfortable with it. You can find lots of test i made regarding to your issue and i am sure it will help you as it did to me

For Core Clock:
- 4.0 with HT On, is an easy job to you with 950 and H70, i manage with my other computer to reach that point with no 80c at load. Also it will give you a noticeable boost to your game. It really worth it.
- If you are not good with 4.0 then try 3.8, this is the same of your setup but with extra 200, which mean some extra $$$ in real life.

For Bois Setting:
- Try to review all and every thing in your bios setting stratring from (Core, Memory, MB Voltages, and every thing else).
- Here is my (4.3 HT ON) 100% stable bios setting, maybe it can help you to reduce some of your voltages.

In the End, GOOD LUCK!
