I have 4 gb ocz ram

http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_ddr2_pc2_6400_sli_ready_edition_4gb_dual_channel

quad core q9400 stock clock 2.66 ghz (333x8)

coolermaster hyper101i dual fan.

ocz 700 watt power supply.

when running intel burn test max ,voltage is at 1.1280 V but sometimes it jumps to 1.152 for like 1 sec.

My goal is 3.00 ghz and than 3.2 ghz.

Just tell me what to change.

Your going to need to up your voltage to get to 3ghz. Using 8 as a multiplier is great, might be better for you to just use 9 until you get to 3.2, then play around with differant multipliers.

I am actually doing stress tests on my Q6600 right now. I is running 3465 ghz on 1.375V.

So for you I would say try to increase your voltage a bit, if your clock isnt holding then that is more than likely your problem.

Also search the forum for other threads to see if you can find other threads with successful overclocks of your CPU, you can try to emulate and learn your CPU's limits that way.

This is riverside from tomshardware.

"AI Overclock Tuner - Manual
CPU Ratio Setting - 08.0
FSB Frequency - 450
FSB Strap To North Bridge - Auto
PCIE Frequency - 100
DRAM Frequency - DDR3-1199Mhz
DRAM Command Rate - 2N

CPU Voltage - 1.36250
CPU PLL Voltage - 1.56
FSB Termination Voltage - 1.46

Load Line Callibration - Enabled

PCIE Spread Spectrum - Disabled

These are the settings i have changed and their values. Also Speedstep and C1E support disabled. Rated fsb is at 1800Mhz (my mobo supports 1600 max) "

Should mine be similar. except 375x8 and what voltage?

When I overclocked my Q6600 the only two variables I changed were the multipliers and the CPU voltage, I left everything else untouched.

As for how far to up the voltage well you have to decide that yourself. If it will not boot up at a certain voltage bump it up a little bit and then see if it boots, then run stress tests to see if it is stable. If it is not stable then you will need to give it either more voltage or settle for a lower overclock.

To get to 3ghz your voltage could be anywhere from 1.20000 - 1.37500, depending on how well it performs you might need to push it to 1.4 to get to 3.2ghz.

But again I'm not familiar with this chip, I really don't know how well of an overclocker it is. As for the rest of the settings I would leave your FSB strapped to the north bridge, and don't touch the rest of the settings.

Ok. guys

I overclocked the cpu to 3 ghz. all I changed was the FSB frequence to 375. and the cpu voltage to 1.275.

I ran the Intelburntest 30 times (949 sec).Nothing crashed altough there was lag couple times in the middle of the stress test. The cpu-z shows wrong voltages (any other way?). Also cpu-z shows rated fsb 1500 mhz is that safe?

idle temprature

36 34 30 28 C

full load

62 57 56 54 C

Are my tempratures good?

I don't know why there is such a big difference between each cores.

So right now 375x8 and 1.275 cpu voltage.

any advice what voltage would be recommended for 3.2 ghz.

You do not necessarily have to raise your voltage on that chip to get 3GHz. I have a Q9400 that will do 3.2 on the stock (vid) voltage. (well it has done at least two different 24 hour runs on small fft prime 95 tests at the stock value.) I just selected "normal" for the value.

I also have a Q9450 that will not even do 3GHz on the stock voltage, so chips are different.

So youre saying I could go 3.2 ghz on 1.275 v? Or atleast try.
