GIGABYTE UD3 vs UD5

Thread Starter
Hey guys, I got the whole pc kit ready in cart but only one thing still bothers me: the MoBo. Should I go for UD3 or UD5 and why? I read that UD3 had fewer DIMMs for memory but that post was in the begining of 2010 so now I ain't sure even when checking specs. Sin0822 told me it all depends on the OC'ing but I still ain't sure. Is there anything else to look at? The current price for each is 219.99$ vs 279.99$.

Here's my set that I intend to buy soon (any thought or recommendation is more than welcomed):

- HAF X
- i7-950
- OCZ Vertex 2 120GB (SSD)
- Black Caviar 1TB 7200RPM (HDD)
- GTX 570 Gigabyte or EVGA (still thinking; look-warranty issue)
- KINGWIN LZG-850 GOLD 80+ Gold (Blue LED)
- Noctua NH-D14 CPU cooler
- 3 x 2 GB OCZ Platinum DDR3 1600 6-8-6-24

they have the same number of dimms, same pci-e slots and spacing, same features. UD3R has less phases, and UD5 better mobo cooling. that is about it apart from OCing, if you are on air cooling just get the UD3R look for rev 2.0. should have 12 power phases. Count the small cubes around CPu socket those are ferrite core chokes, they will tell you how many phases the board has for CPU.

You will not notice much difference between the two.

I say the UD3R

Alrite, thx guys! Definetely going UD3 then.

Btw, how is that UD5 has better mobo cooling than UD3?? Do they come with fans or something? And what are phases for? :S
Sry if I ask too many questions, g2 know what i'm in for though.. lol

1. There are more beefier heatsinks on the UD5

2. Phases regulate power to the CPU.
For your planned OC, the 8 on the UD3r is way more than enough.
