Please help me set up this HD on Router.

Thread Starter

I bought this.

Seagate Black Armor 1TB NAS 110

I want to set it up on my network where it acts like a drive so any comp on the network can use it.

The seagate software that comes with it is absolute crap and seems confusing.

I just want the drive to simply be visible and accessible by any computers on my network.

Anyone know how I can achieve this?

Thanks a lot.

EDIT

The HD is plugged via Ethernet port on the external hard drive to the router.

So, it's plugged in to the router.

Go in to your router settings and find what IP address your router has given it (assuming your using DHCP).

Type the ip address in your browser. It should bring up the configuration page for the NAS. Set up everything you need to.

To add it as a network drive on any PC/Laptop in your network, you will need to set/find out what the NAS drive name is. For example, mine is called "storage".

Open up my computer, then in the address bar, type in \\\\[nas name]. In my case, I would type \\\\storage. This should bring up all of the folders you set up in the NAS control panel. Right click on a folder, and select "map network drive". It will then ask you to assign it a name and a drive letter.

Hope this helps.

The firmware on those NAS units can be a little tricky. I've worked with QNAPs but not the new Seagate units. Can you provide us with a screen-grab of the web interface so we can help you more?
