How long does it take you to encode a long video?

Thread Starter
First time really testing my processor and I converted a 2.5 hour video 720x480 to AVI it took my a little under 20 minutes on my processor.

Anybody have comparisons to see if my 12 threads are being put to good use or not?

What program are you using?

You mean 12 virtual cores. Threads are generated by programs.
Once again...

What was your input and output? What are your settings. If you want just pure speed, gpu can do it in about 4 mins.

But if you want quality you can get it in about 10 or 11 mins cpu.

If you are doing it in 20mins on a 12 w/ht, you are doing something wrong.

What is the sound going across as? You are taking way to long. What percentage is your cpu at when encoding?

On average, using handbrake for 1080p, a 2.5 hour movie goes about 15 minutes.

With your size, you are should closer to 10 minutes.

48000 hz 16bit

Just tried another setting the first AVI took 20 minutes and the final file was around 30gb

The second video I just tried same settings was mpeg2 and it took about 7 minutes finished at 6gb

both same settings

The AVI only used about 10% of my cpu

The MPEG2 used about 70%

Dont know why

I think you have threads mixed up with cores... Cores are physical on the processor, where thread is just a virtual say or imaginary
