First overclock - E6400 - Page 3

No problem glad to help.

Yes just jump to 333 and make sure that the multiplier is at 2. You could start at 1.35 - 1.4 since your core voltage is indeed low which is very nice. Then increase or decrease your voltage if you need to. Going to 1.45 for testing is not bad. Intel recommends that you don't go past 1.55 on these chips.

Oh! I remember what I was going to ask you now.

Okay so if I'm slowing down my memory the speed up the CPU is that really an overall benefit? I know this probably seems like a dumb question to you guys but bear with me I am new to this. Is my memory going to be slow as hell?

No, because at 333 FSB, that will put your RAM back to stock speed of 333. Your RAM will be just as fast as stock. If you want to try to make it faster, overclock more.

EDIT:
But yes, CPU speed matters 100x more than RAM speed.

Your memory will be slower but will not be noticeable. If you run the FSB at 333 then your memory will run at its normal speed. The upgrade in CPU speed will make up for the slightly slower memory .

With overclocking you don't really care about memory at the beginning. You want the CPU stable first then worry about memory.

After you up the speed of the memory you can worry about latencies. The lower the latencies, the faster the memory can access cells.

^This. Also u have an e6400 a 65 nm cpu. Your voltage limit is higher than 1.45 (as safe).

You guys are such a help. I'm at 2.56Ghz a core right now...seems stable. Temps are 40 Celsius per core right now...When should temps be a red flag that I need better cooling?

Once you see it hit 70c on load.

Ok. Just maxed out my memory, I'm at 2.66Ghz

Quite an increase, lmao.

I had to up the voltage to get it to post so this is, I assume, the minimum voltage required to run like this.

Where do I go from here? Back to Prime95 for temp testing?

Either 10hours of Prime or 45-60mins on OCCT CPU burn test.
