Well, one thing about OCCT is that it will stress your CPU beyond any program or software can do now a day and it does it fast.

While prime give you a more accurate result if you do 10 hours.

I'll do that overnight. I tried to get a quick game in and all of the sudden started seeing some artifacts from my gpu overclock earlier...my card was at 80 degrees. Whoops.

Cpu's seem to hit 50 max while playing a game. We will see what happens with Prime, might as well just use that since I already have it.

I got my E6400 to 2.66GHz on all stock volts easy peasy, using the worst 775 motherboard ever (well, probably not, but it's getting there).

I must've had an alright chip then, shame I never got a good enough motherboard to see how far it could actually go.

What stepping do you have? I think the B2 stepping are better clockers.
I have a L2 and just for reference my max is 3.33 at 1.55v but I run 3.2 at 1.49.

Wow..yeah I couldn't pull it off with stock volts it wouldn't post.

My 4gb DDR3 arrived today So it's time to see what I can do now

Oh, and I was going to ask you guys on your opinion, if I get a new setup. Do you think I should just get like a core2quad 4mb l2? You think that would be sufficient? Or should I scrap the board all together and go for a new build?

I guess what I'm asking is, how outdated am I really?

I would not go with any quad right now. Your board is greatly limiting the potential of a new CPU (unless you want to run stock ....). You have DDR3 memory which is required for 1156 and 1366 sockets. I would invest that money in a new motherboard and possibly a i5/i7 cpu. Heck, there are even great deals on the OCN marketplace here for 1156 boards + CPU's. I would check that first.

BTW, where are you from? Depending on where you are there can be had great deals online.

I live in the US. Midwest to be specific.

What are some things I should look for in a board? I found some affordable 1156 socket boards on Newegg.

So in your opinion I should just skip the core2quad and jump to an i5 or i7 with a new board?

Edit: btw what's with you running the E5200?

Since you are in the US, newegg or microcenter has great deals time to time on 1156 boards and CPU combos. I would definitely pick one up.

There are a few things to look for in a board. For overclocking, you want the board to have decent cooling (heatsinks). You also now want to look for usb 3.0 and SATA3. You want to make sure you have enough pci express lanes for the number of video cards you want to run in the future. For overclocking you want to make sure you have adequate power units.

Personally I prefer using gigabyte boards. I have used many in the past and these are my favourite. I'm using a DFI right now since I got a great deal on it and I wanted to try it out. I'd stick with gigabyte.

I'll upgrade from the E5200 once I graduate next year . Plus it serves me well at that overclock.
