sli without sli bridge

Thread Starter
I'm about to get a second 465. However, i lost my original sli bridge. I know that sli can work without the bridge, but performance will be reduced. On one thread I noticed that the individual only experienced a 1.6% drop for his 9600 gts. However, because the 465 is a much more powerful card and requires more bandwidth from the pci express lane, i expect performance drops to be much more significant . Furthermore, my motherboard only supports pcie 1.0 (less bandwidth compared to pcie 2.0), which i expect to add to this bottleneck. Is it important for me to get a new sli bridge? how much will performance be impacted if i don't use an sli bridge? Thank you.

Yes, I know someone that ran two 470's without a bridge and he was getting a 3DM06 score worse than he was with one card, the bridge is an important part.

I've actually heard the performance without the SLi bridge is quite negligible, in most situations (if all actually).

The SLI is important for higher performing cards. Given your cards and the motherboard you will see a difference. Try to get an SLI bridge; they can be had for under $10.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't want to spoil all the fun, but is the second 465 going in your sig rig? Because that's a 400w psu... it won't do.

I was thinking the same thing. Also the CPU may be limiting depending on which Core 2 Duo it is tongue.gif.

Depending on the driver, it may not even run. With my GTX 570's, I was in the same boat as you: I could not find any of my bridges! frown.gif I tried to run it anyway but the newer drivers (263.09) would not allow SLI to be enabled. The best I could do was have the second card used as a PhysX card, lol.

I ended up buying a Tri-SLI bridge on Ebay for $6, which did the trick. The agonizing part was just waiting the 4-5 days to get here, but now that it is here it was well worth the wait having some time off from work. biggrin.gif
