Is this correct for cpu temps?

Thread Starter
I have been ocing my old phenom 9750 and I've run into something that doesn't make much sense. The temp sensors built into the cpu are located in the hottest part of the cpu yet my cpu temp from the motherboard is always at least 10c higher than the readings for the core. The reason I ask is because I have seen elsewhere many people having the same results with phenom cpu's which just seems odd to me since many people with intel cpu's their cpu temp will register 10-15c lower than the core temps. Why would there be such a big discrepancy with a temp taken from below the socket? So I guess what I'm asking is, is the cpu socket temp really supposed to be that much higher than the core temp? Or is this an issue with the temp sensor?

thats just how they are... all four of my phenoms' report core temps 8-12* c lower than the socket temp. if the temp is too high, the pc will shut down before any damage is done, but generally you want to stay below 55 on the cpu temp
