No, they are both 2GB framebuffer cards.

Eh, it may OC a little better but in the end that is luck of the draw. I like to run the top of the line if its not too expensive, in this case its not. Its not like the bad old days when Nvidia could charge people over $600 for an 8800 Ultra, which when you factor in inflation is like $700 in 2010 dollars.

I don't know how worth it the upgrade will be from a pure performance standpoint. Realistically you'll be looking at an average of 25% faster performance on one of these new 6900 cards. There are no really compelling uses of DX11 yet either.

If I were you I would wait for their 28nm cards to come out in about a year or maybe less.

There are a million games to play! King's Bounty Crossworlds came out this year, New Vegas came out this year, Star Craft II, Black Ops, BC2 Vietnam, Mafia II, ME2, Bioshock 2, hell, I'll even throw in WoW Cataclysm if you are into that sort of thing.

Not to mention the PC's huge back catalog. If you can't find a game to play you aren't looking hard enough.

i find it funny the way that the 69** cards where meant to be so much better than Nvidia's.

The GTX570 beats a 6970.

Depends what title you play. Some run better on the 6970, some better on the GTX570. Both cards are priced exactly the same. The 6970 does have the advantage in that it uses 2GB of GDDR, thus, it pulls ahead in high resolution/high AA environments.

Other than that, they are pretty much exactly the same and it comes down to preference.

Not to mention it barely beats a 5870.

Depends on your resolution and game. In many games at my resolution, on release drivers, the 6970 beats the gtx570. I think they'll end up on par once the drivers get up to snuff, except in some games at 2560x1600 due to the 6900 series higher framebuffer.

This is just not true. In two games it performs very closely. In most games it is a good deal faster, up to 50% in some games. For a card that didn't get a die shrink that is pretty fantastic. Not to mention that they've got 3d support now.
