[ESC] Windows 8 Will Be a "Real New Push Into PC Gaming" - Page 11

I doubt it will revolutionize a damn thing.

Perhaps data mining, seeing as everything's touted to be cloud based 'n all.

Hrmm...then apparently you think all of the following is 'nothing':

IM
VOIP
in-game IM
in-game VOIP
in-game web browser
in-app store
in-game store
awesome sales
the ability to apply all of the above to non-Steam games as well
automatic updates
negating the need for annoyingly easy to lose/damage DVDs
negating install limits
Painless installation
easy DLC handling
low footprint
Easy to configure
Simple, and IMO pretty, interface

If that's your definition of 'nothing' then I'd hate to see what you think is 'something'. Probably involves gold platters and expensive callgirls, I'd imagine, because most sane gamers would love to have just the first five or six things Steam gives you.

You obviously never had to use the pile of poo that 3.x was - although it was certainly "better" than any of the 2.x garbage. And 1 - like, you couldn't even have the windows overlapping, it was so bad. And don't forget NT, bloated, bug ridden garbage from the beginning - OS/2 done wrong, and that's saying something, since OS/2 was wrong on it's own accord.

Maybe MS just needs to invest in some attention span - you know, Win7 is scoring large, so they should stick with it. And getting into things, like Cloud Computing, are better left to those that know how to do it, like Citrix, because knowing MS, their version will be uber-horrible, at lest for the first 29 versions, until it starts approaching mediocrity.

From all of the hype I have been hearing about Win8 - I'll be sticking to Win7 for a long, long time, because at least I can do something with it...

If PC gaming is to get better we need better game developers and publishers.

The OS is just fine, lol.

Being as end of support for W7 Professional is January 14, 2020, I really have no incentive to swap OS's for at least another 6-7 years..

I'm with you. If I purchase the physical media, I expect to be able to install the game and play it without having to connect to the internet or download and/or install 3rd party software.

And they had better just scrap GFWL. That pile of dog poo is absolutely worthless.

sounds like a messenger with a download manager. steam is nice because i don't have to go to the store. nothing more. don't present it to me as a 'gaming platform' when it's really a store in your computer in trying to sell you games all the time.

now it's been called adware and it's true. just look at wiki's definition of adware: Adware, or advertising-supported software, is any software package which automatically plays, displays, or downloads advertisements to a computer. These advertisements can be in the form of a pop-up.[1] The object of the Adware is to generate revenue for its author.

yup. sounds like steam.

i don't give a rats ass about any kind of gaming ***** platforms like steam on my computer. why must steam be started to play any game you bought through it? - even single player ones. if steam wasn't required to start separate from any other program, i'd love it. however, it's that's not the case.

now to be clear: i'm not against steam on pc - i just see it for what it is while the rest of you think it's mother mary incarnate for games. i also love xbox live for the 360 but i would hate it on pc. a fully integrated gaming platform on an inherently open platform like a pc will not work.
