If that's your definition of 'nothing' then I'd hate to see what you think is 'something'. Probably involves gold platters and expensive callgirls, I'd imagine, because most sane gamers would love to have just the first five or six things Steam gives you.
BWAHAHAHAAH!!!!

Screw a cookie. I'd give you a damn SHEET of cookies!! You hit the nail on the head. None of that, I mean NOT A SINGLE EFFIN' THING you posted there, my good man, means crap to me. No joke. If I want a patch I go to the dev's website. Seriously. Most of that is multiplayer stuff. I never ever play multi. What the heck would I want an in-game store for? To spend MORE money? Dear god no! I don't want another interface.

And I'm not bashing you. I'm amazed at that list because you are so dead on there about things I do not give a crap about. Game length, story, in game interface that doesn't hate me cause I don't have a controller, lack of a need for DRM that requires varification of my kidney size... these things matter to me. These things will bring back people to gaming on the PC.

I should edit but this is back on topic as oppose to that last post.

At the end of the day, though, you can add in all that stuff. It makes it more like a console. And you know what I'm talking about. If you think of the ability to chat with people with XBox or update games on your 360... it is all done on XBox Live. So we make GFWL the same damn thing. But you still have to buy a more expensive computer or build it. You can't get around costs.

So what you have to do is justify those costs. Give PC gamers something they can't have on a console. World of Warcraft is such a boon to PC because it can only be played on there. MMO's in general are like that (at least at this point). Microsoft should be out there pushing for games that constantly push the graphical limit. That require more RAM and CPU speed; IE need the hardware that a console doesn't have. Make gaming on a PC special again. Use it to make worlds that require 100 gigs of storage space.

But in the end... you're right. All of you who support GFWL and Steam are right. What I said costs too damn much and doesn't pay off. We all know it. So I guess the best we can do is make the PC as good as a console. Everyone will be happier except for me in the few minority who hate the in game menu that pops up reminding me to:

When I buy a game I do not want to have to install any form of DRM to play it. I bought it, I own it and I will play it as I see fit. I don't care about corporate sponsored laws that prevent me from playing games or using software, through DRM, activation limits, constant connection to the net because there are times when I don't have Internet.

I have no use for Steam nor GFWL and I don't care whether anyone's a fanboy of either. You're welcome to blindly support any platform, while I happily trot down to the local shop and pick up a game for next to nothing. So, I wait a few months and buy a game really cheap.

Offline mode only works if you actually updates the games then start steam in offline mode.
If you try to play a game you haven't in a while while the internet is out you can't play the game.

CPU, HDD, Volatile Memory, and Integrated Gfx. Hardware? Check. M$ approached the half-way mark with the original 360. All that's left is an OS and anti-virus.

And if you don't like having to log on to a DRM site then just buy the DVD.

now it's been called adware and it's true. just look at wiki's definition of adware: Adware, or advertising-supported software, is any software package which automatically plays, displays, or downloads advertisements to a computer. These advertisements can be in the form of a pop-up.[1] The object of the Adware is to generate revenue for its author.

yup. sounds like steam.

i don't give a rats ass about any kind of gaming ***** platforms like steam on my computer. why must steam be started to play any game you bought through it? - even single player ones. if steam wasn't required to start separate from any other program, i'd love it. however, it's that's not the case.

now to be clear: i'm not against steam on pc - i just see it for what it is while the rest of you think it's mother mary incarnate for games. i also love xbox live for the 360 but i would hate it on pc. a fully integrated gaming platform on an inherently open platform like a pc will not work.
If Steam is a messenger with a download manager, Windows is a virus with networking support.

And it's not Adware, I only see ads on the official site or the store, which if I'm in...I'm pretty sure I'll be looking for a game anyway, by that logic, eBay, OCN, etc are adware because they have ads.

Why wouldn't you want it to download itself? It's very useful IMO.

And Steam does do that last DRM bit you mentioned, by the way.

We get better graphics, PCs are currently at a limit in how much RAM they can use...There's too many people sticking with XP or 32bit Windows and many games already can hit 2GB RAM usage (Bethesda's recent games, Sins of a Solar Empire, heck, even Minecraft), but you are right that for the most part, PC exclusives don't make good profit.

And I'm sorry, but on Steam, I simply go to "Offline mode" when I'm not online and then it is as simple as double clicking the icon on the desktop and bam! the game starts.

HL2 are both bought on DVD and online, AvP is the same and both need online registration and need to be online right before you can play them offline.
BFBC2 at least has the option to just use the DVD copy protection.

HL2 hasn't been updated in ages IIRC.
If the games aren't FULLY updated they just whine that it can't be played at this moment.

It's fun when people try to prove it works in offline on games like TF2 or any other game that updates regularly.
Because they have it already updated when they go into offline mode.

You all are reading to much into this announcement. The Windows 8 relaunching of PC gaming just entails putting new skins on Minesweeper and Solitaire.
