[ESC] Windows 8 Will Be a "Real New Push Into PC Gaming" - Page 16

Okay I read the last 10 pages... since my last visit.

Summarize it for those who think about posting:
Only poor conduct piracy.
People confused about software licensing vs. ownership.
People don't know how to use Steam.
People don't like Microsoft.
People don't like Steam.
People don't like "the Cloud."
People don't want to buy Windows 8 but want DirectX 12.
People don't want to buy Windows 8 but eventually will, or steal it.
People will stick with Windows 7.
People like Steam.
People don't like GFWL and think it blows.
I like Steam and Windows 7.

Only about 2 and 1/2 of those frequently posted items listed relate to Windows 8.

the only reason why i got win 7 was for directx 11 thats how they got into my pocket because i was happy with xp pro.
They F&%#@d me by not adding legacy support so i had to buy new hardware.

You want dx 11 on xp (virtually impossible to implement), and on your dx9 gpu?

Windows XP came out in 2001 which is quite some time ago and it obviously would sooner or later be incapable of newer innovations. It didn't even support DirectX 10 so expecting to get legacy support for DX11 is irrational. Also of course you would have to buy new hardware for DX11 because software updates don't just magically make a GPU cutting edge.

Also I DO NOT WANT Steam integration built in or anything like that. I HATE Steam. It gives me nothing. So if my physical copy of a game needs Steam I really friggin' hate that. So you can imagine how Steam just sitting in my system without a game relate to it would make me feel.

I also despise Steam. With a passion. Why should I have to sign on to Steam to play a game I bought from BestBuy? I don't play on-line games and hate them just as much as Steam. Why can't I just plug in the CD and play a game?
Have any of you noticed how much resources Steam consumes? After you log into Steam open Task Manager and then Processes. You won't have to search for Steam, it's always the 1st app. on the list.
I just signed on and checked. It's at the top of the list, as usual, using 47,724KB of memory. And I'm not even playing a game! Why should I want this hog on my system? If I can't buy a hard copy of a game then I don't buy it at all. I don't download games, just whatever patches that are always necessary since the devs. don't take the time to fully check their games for inherent flaws. I download game patches from the game sites. I don't need Steam doing it for me. I can no longer play Half Life 2. Even after I uninstall it and then reinstall it from the CD. As soon as I try to load the game Steam pops up and the game suddenly freezes in its tracks and that's it! Stuck on Loading. Once I left it like that, drove to the grocery store, did my shopping, came back home and there it was. Still stuck on Loading. After over an hour.
Games for Windows? Fine. As long as it's for Windows games, not for X-Box and not Live. As I said I don't play on-line games so I need no GFW Live!

This is a great idea, I really hope they develop something like this.

Well what did you expect them to say? Insignificant release, not worth your time.

You've got at least 6GB of memory and you're worried about less than 50MB? you're kidding. Firefox with ONE window open uses way more than that. Maybe uh Start Steam first? Steam is not as bad as some of the crappy DRM out there. But to each his own.

best? That's a strong word. Xcode and Eclipse are both strong contenders, and those are just the widely available ones.
