[ESC] Windows 8 Will Be a "Real New Push Into PC Gaming" - Page 18

joining an xbox party automatically gives you voice chat that's clear - you need an extra program besides steam, about 15 minutes into calibrating a mic, and a button press each time you wan't to talk for on pc.

invite other friends or your whole party into playing your game is very trivial

when the inevitable death of xbox live comes in some years for whatever reason, i'd still be able to access my games since they're on physical media. if steam goes away tommorow, what will happen to your games?

when i do buy a game on steam, i take the cd-key and install the game using an iso. i don't need to advertise to the world that i'm cool because i've played bc2:vietnam for four hours last night. which doesn't really make sense because you can't join your friends bc2 game from steam and must use the HORRIBLE friends system on bc2 anyway.

truth is steam is nothing beyond source games. beyond the facade it's an adware/download manager for gaming that charges the same price for a boxed version.

i love xbl but it's a closed system along with xb360. it will never work with pc's open platform.
You're really stupid. As to your question about "what happens if steam dies", which it wont anyways because Valve makes so much money off of it and has 40 million users. Why don't you just email Valve CEO Gabe Newell and ask him. I did and he said that they would release some sort of offline patch which would allow you to game offline. Which they already did(Steam offline omde hurr). The rest of the problems you stated lies within the game developers pool. Also, the rest of you stated that XBLs save system is stupid... Well Steam has the exact same thing. Cloud saves, IE when you switch computers your saves are backed up along with your in-game settings. But thats only if the developer allows it which is why Source games are so fully integrated into Steam. If you don't like it, go get a console system. Steam is not adware. Last time I checked you can disable the "Steam News" popup in the settings. FYI, nice lie. Steam does not provide CD-Keys for games purchased so you can't "pirate the iso and install it with the cd key steam gives me". God dam. Also, I'm pretty sure a harddrive is physical media aswell as DVD's or B-rays.

I can see it now. Valve's final breath is a notification to every game that it needs to be updated, right before closing down the online service. Shortly afterwards the earth thunders with the rage of PC gamers receiving the familiar Offline mode prompt: "Could not connect to the Steam network."

Lol. He said Valve would release some sort of de-steam-a-fier in the event of a closure.

I think he said he would "presumably" disable it, not that he would definitely.

gabe's definetly a gamer like the rest of us, so i dont doubt that he will do something to help us gamers that bought his games on steam.

if he didnt, then he would be getting sued up the ass.

Microsoft plans get behind PC gaming once with a little help from Windows 8, according to a source talking to TechRadar.

The Xbox platform holder and PC giant is set to use the release of its next operating system to plonk itself at the forefront of PC gaming once more, an area many feel Microsoft has neglected.
lol, didn't they do this with windows 7 as well?

Microsoft has "saved" pc gaming at least half-a-dozen times in the last few years haven't they?
