Cheap AMD upgrade cpu+mobo+memory

Thread Starter
So I am about to upgrade a friend's computer. All he does is internet and lots of files. He works with a large amount of files such as txt, doc, mpeg, mp3. No gaming or video editing.

Here is what I came up with:

ASUS M4A78LT-M AM3 AMD 760G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard $66

AMD Athlon II X2 240 Regor 2.8GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM3 65W Dual-Core Processor ADX240OCGQBOX $57

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL $53

Total $176

A few questions:

1. Would be enough to work with large amount of files?
2. Will I be able to hook up dual monitors to the mobo? (it shows DVI and VGA connectors)
3. Do I need a special mATX case or will the mobo fit in a medium or larger case?
4. Are there any better/cheaper alternatives?

Thanks!

1, don't understand what you mean.
2, probably not. you will need a graphics card to run multiple monitors.
3, most new Cases fix mATX
4, only going second hand could be cheaper.

1. yup
2. nope
3. all cases can fit a matx board
4. that's pretty cheap already. going any lesser than that is a calculator imo

Ok, so if I have a full tower, mATX will fit so if I get a video card, PCIe slot will align with the case?

STOP. DO NOT GET THAT RAM.
Why downgrade the RAM when it's only $5 cheaper (and overpriced) and I can still get you better RAM for $8 cheaper!? Cancel the order! You shouldn't be ordering 1333 9-9-9 generics with custom builds anyway. You have a choice, go with quality RAM that performs better.

There is a reason the status below my name says "1333 9-9-9: eeewwwwwwwwwww". I would be highly disappointed if you ordered that RAM, it is prebuilt-quality memory for $18 more than it should be worth. Nobody should pay more than $30 for 2x2GB of 1333 9-9-9, and nobody should be ordering 1333 9-9-9 for custom builts in the first place anyway when there are much, much better choices for cheaper.

760G doesn't include UVD2 which means no full Flash 10.1 YouTube acceleration; 785G/880G does have that.

xd_1771,

Thanks for the update! I did not have a time to place an order yet.
I'm not a big fan of Biostar, can you suggest an Asus, maybe an MSI board? Thanks
