Thx for pointing this out..
WD5001AALS SATA 3 Gb/s 32 MB
WD5002AALX SATA 6 Gb/s 64 MB
I will do some more tweaking...even with my motherboard limited to 3Gb/s, I should still get better performance..thx for input

You should also note that drives which are not your main system/boot drive usually perform better on benchmarks.

OP:

Firstly, your drive speeds are bang on. Your drive uses 500GB platters (hence has only one of them), so you're up there with the Samsung F3 1TB, in terms of transfer rates.

Secondly, you won't get any faster out of it. The 3Gb (300MB/sec) speed of SATA II interface is the maximum speed that the interface will support - in this case it's the speed from the hard drive's cache to the SATA controller. The mechanical elements of the hard drive will get no where near that.

Even 15,000RPM SAS hard drives don't get near those speeds.

OP:

Your read speeds are right on par yet your access times are a bit slow. I can't remember on my old work computer if I had the 5001 or 5002, but my access times were 12.1-12.2 consistently.
