Why cut under CPU?

Thread Starter
I have seen a lot of case mods where people will dremmel a square opening in the case's motherboard tray right under the processor so you can see the bottom of the motherboard where the CPU is from the back of the case when the back/other side door is off. Is there a reason for this?

Thanks.

Its so you can swap out CPU coolers without taking the motherboard out.

This is so you can access the backplate for aftermarket CPU coolers. It allows you to swap coolers/processors without taking the motherboard out of the case.

I guess so that they can fit big cpu coolers without removing the motherboard.

So you can change the processor heatsink/waterblock without removing the motherboard from the case.

Ya some cpu coolers require brackets which otherwise would require you to take out the motherboard for installation.

Got beat to the answer their right makes it so much easyer and safer sence most times you end up killing motherboards by taking them out and installing alot.

another reason is that it offers better airflow to the back of the CPU socket resulting in slightly better cooling.

Thank you everone for your input. Kind of what I figured but wanted to confirm I wasn't missing an alternative use for it. Will probably be my situation as well. I am missing one water cooling piece as it's being revisioned and will put my computer together with the stock cooler for now and swap it out later. The stock heat sync has a backplate and so does the water block so this makes sense. Of course if I decide to take out the motherboard to spray the case later, won't matter much I guess. Anyway, thanks again for the input.
